Carlos Queiroz has apologised for his comments concerning Martin Taylor after Manchester United's FA Cup defeat to Portsmouth.
Speaking after Saturday's 1-0 loss to Pompey at Old Trafford, United's assistant manager Queiroz made reference to Taylor's recent tackle on Eduardo da Silva.
Arsenal striker Eduardo suffered an horrific broken leg following a challenge by Birmingham City defender Taylor in last month's Premier League game at St Andrews.
"That's why the Taylors of this game can survive and some of the best players are out of the game," said Queiroz on Saturday when complaining about Portsmouth's physical approach.
"It cannot happen any more."
Emotions running high
But United's No.2 has now offered an apology to Taylor if his comments at the weekend caused any offence.
"I am deeply sorry if my comments, made when emotions were running high after the Portsmouth game, were misconstrued," Queiroz told the club's official website.
"Everyone at Manchester United knows that Martin Taylor is not that type of player.
"All I sought to say was that in the modern game, because of its speed, we need to have more vigilance on mistimed tackles.
"I apologise for any upset my remarks may have caused."
