Celtic midfielder Scott Brown has intimated that Manchester United winger Cristiano Ronaldo came in for preferential treatment on Wednesday night.
Brown was caught by a late challenge from the Portugal forward in the 1-1 UEFA Champions League draw at Parkhead but Ronaldo was not cautioned by referee Tom Henning Ovrebo.
The Scotland international was left disappointed by the tackle and has questioned whether the outcome would have been the same had it not been the FifPro World Footballer of the Year committing the offence.
He told The Daily Record: "Maybe it's because it's the Champions League. Maybe it's because it's Manchester United.
"Or maybe it's just because it's Ronaldo we're talking about but I don't think there are many situations in football where a referee would let someone get away with something like that.
"I won the ball and gave him a bit of a shoulder charge at the same time. The ball fell between us and went out of play but as I got back up he just had a boot at me.
"He connected with my calf or my shin, I'm not too sure. I was just so taken aback that he had reacted like that because I knew if it had been me I would have been in serious trouble.
"Maybe the ref didn't see it too well but his linesman was only a few yards away and must have had a clear view.
"I just don't think there should be one rule for the rest of us and another one for Cristiano Ronaldo.
"I'm not going to cry about it. I have had a lot worse and no doubt I'll have more to come in the future.
"But it annoys me when I know that I wouldn't have got away with it had I had a boot at Ronaldo.
"I'm not saying he should have been sent off. Those are decisions for the officials to make - but they surely can't just ignore it.
"At the very least he should have been booked and been given a talking too. That's what I would have expected if it had been me."
