Sir Alex Ferguson has paid a glowing tribute to Cristiano Ronaldo after the Portugal forward completed his move to Real Madrid.
Manchester United's coffers have been boosted by an astonishing £80million from the sale of the World Player of the Year to the Spanish giants.
The unconditional world record fee has been paid to the Old Trafford outfit, with Ferguson now expected to embark on a summer spending spree.
Antonio Valencia has already arrived from Wigan for a fee reported to be in the region of £18million and more new faces are certain to follow.
Ronaldo developed from a precocious teenager into one of the finest players on the planet during his time with United, helping the club to collect silverware at home and abroad.
And Ferguson has hailed the former Sporting Lisbon ace for everything he brought to the Premier League champions.
The Scot told the club's official website: "Cristiano has been a marvellous player for Manchester United. His six years at Old Trafford have seen him develop into the best footballer in the world.
"His contribution has been a major factor in the club's success in that time and his talent, his ability to entertain and his infectious personality have enthralled fans the world over.
"Everyone here wishes him well in his future career."
