Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson has played down speculation that skipper Gary Neville will retire at the end of the season.
While fellow veterans Ryan Giggs and Paul Scholes are committing themselves to the club for another year, no contract offer has yet been made to Neville.
This has fuelled speculation that the defender, who turns 35 next month, could be about to call time on his career after injury problems in recent seasons and a disappointing performance in Sunday's shock FA Cup defeat to Leeds United.
But Ferguson has poured scorn on such suggestions, insisting no decision needs to be made just now on Neville's future.
He said: "There has not been a decision about Gary Neville.
"Why make a decision about his future when we don't need to? You don't make decisions like that in the middle of the season.
"It is a load of nonsense."
