Striker feels United are right in the title hunt

Manchester United striker Dimitar Berbatov has stressed that to write off his side as title contenders would be 'stupid'. The Red Devils sit in second place in the table, trailing leaders Arsenal by a point before the two go head-to-head in what is sure to be an intense battle at Old Trafford on Monday night. The Bulgarian has returned to form in recent times, scoring five goals against Blackburn recently in a 7-1 victory, as well as seeing his side go unbeaten since the start of the season. Despite this, United have not been playing the blistering football so associated with them over the past 20 years, whereas the Gunners have reached the top with their usual flowing style. But Berbatov gave a word of warning to the doubters, saying that whilst Arsenal were playing great football, they faced a huge test at Old Trafford and that Sir Alex Ferguson's men should never be written off.

Embarrassed

"With the goals we score it's stupid to say that Manchester United is not a contender for the league," he said. "It's a statement that if someone is going to make then they should feel embarrassed because it's Manchester United, and you have the best players in the world playing there. "It's open but anything can happen. "The football Arsenal are showing is great. I like watching them and how they play, because they control the ball and try to play a beautiful game. "It's happening for them, but there are bigger tests to come now, they need to play us, so like I say it's going to be a great game." Meanwhile, it has been confirmed that United's away date at Blackpool, which fell foul of the cold snap last weekend, has been rearranged for 25th January.
