Portugal international rues United's inability to hold onto lead
Manchester United winger Nani insists they can go all the way in the UEFA Champions League even if they fail to finish as Group C winners.
The Red Devils drew 2-2 with Benfica on Tuesday night which means the Portuguese team will qualify as group leaders based on their head-to-head records, if both clubs win their final games to end up level on 12 points each.
For United, this means they could potentially in the next round face Bayern Munich, Inter Milan or Real Madrid, who have already finished as winners of their respective groups.
Barcelona also look on course to qualify from their group as the top team but Nani maintains United need not fear any side in the next stage of the competition.
Confident
"If we do finish second and get a big team that is no problem for us," he said.
"If you have ambitions to get to the Champions League final you are always going to get a top side. We are still confident."
United fell behind early on to an own goal from Phil Jones but efforts from Dimitar Berbatov and Darren Fletcher put them in front.
Yet they were unable to see out the victory as Pablo Aimar stabbed home from close range to seal a point for Benfica.
Lead
And the Portugal international feels the result would have been different had they held the lead for longer.
"We deserved more from the game," Nani added.
"We played some fantastic football and created a lot of chances. We should have held the lead for longer though. We are a bit down about that."
