Youngster says United will rise to the occasion against Basel

Phil Jones expects the pressure of their crucial UEFA Champions League game with Basel to bring the best out of Manchester United on Wednesday night. United travel to Switzerland knowing that they must avoid defeat to progress to the to the knockout stages. Mathematically, the Red Devils can still top Group C, but having failed to beat Benfica last time out that now looks unlikely. First place would have given United a more favourable draw by avoiding Barcelona, Real Madrid, Bayern Munich and Inter Milan in the first knockout round. United have only missed out on progression from the group stage three times in 1993, 94 and again in 2005.

Thrive

Jones believes his team-mates are desperate to avoid a repeat of that heartbreak by securing the points they need at St Jakob Park. The 19-year-old said: "It (pressure) does bring the best out of me. As a group of players we thrive on it. "Pressure comes with every game. We are at a massive club so we are used to it. "Tomorrow is no different. We have prepared right and hopefully we will get the three points."
