The arrival of left-sided Barcelona ace Boudewijn Zenden has allowed Blues coach Claudio Ranieri to cash in on the England Under-21 international, although some Chelsea fans may be disappointed to see one of their few homegrown stars leave Stamford Bridge.
The 21-year-old has already agreed personal terms with his new club and will become Jean Tigana's latest impressive capture, following Edwin van der Sar's switch from Juventus.
A Premiership debut at Old Trafford awaits the full back, who had a loan spell with Wimbledon last season, as the newly-promoted Cottagers kick off against champions Manchester United.
Celestine Babayaro and Graeme Le Saux should compete for the left back slot under Ranieri next season, with Zenden challenging Jesper Gronkjaer for a more advanced role on the flank.
