Although The Blues already have three top class custodians in Mark Bosnich, Ed De Goey and Carlo Cudicini, there are reports that manager Claudio Ranieri is ready to snatch the Italian international from the Serie A champions.
Antonioli has been outraged at being the most criticised member of a championship winning side, and the big-money move for Atalanta's young star Ivan Pelizzoli has only served to strengthen the Italian's conviction that he should leave Rome.
Although president Franco Sensi and coach Fabio Capello have both suggested that Antonioli and Pelizzoli will start the season as joint number ones, it looks highly likely that the new arrival will get the nod for the opening game and be difficult to displace barring a disastrous spell.
Antonioli has hinted that he may leave Italian football if he was phased out of Roma's starting XI so it seems that a move to London would certainly appeal to the keeper.
However, with Cudicini close to a return from injury, it seems that Ranieri would be more likely to target other areas of his side as they are more in need of strengthening.
Fiorentina have also been surprisingly linked with Antonioli although this is less viable as any move could only be aon a loan basis due to the finacial trouble of the Viola, while they have only just completed the signing of Alex Manninger from Asrenal.
