Ranieri failed in a swoop for the Cameroon international last summer because The Blues baulked at the £8.5 million asking price.
The Premiership side were only willing to pay £6 million for the 23-year-old who admitted he was tempted by a move to Stamford Bridge.
Though Ranieri is keen to rekindle his interest in Geremi, it remains to be seen whether he will have to up his offer to entice the player away from Santiago Bernabeu.
"Geremi is certainly the type of player we need if we are to step up to the next level," Ranieri told onefootball.
"He is a very tempting purchase because of his physical strength and versatility."
Geremi has again been a peripheral figure in the Spanish capital this season and has barely featured in La Liga.
The energetic midfielder can also play at full back and was a key component of Cameroon's African Cup of Nations-winning team in February.
Ranieri is scouring for fresh talent following another potless season on the King's Road and will be aiming to drive a hard bargain with Real Madrid.
