The Blues have agreed a deal to sign Cameroon defender Geremi while taking Brazilian midfielder Flavio Conceicao on a season long loan with a view to a permanent move.
The deals now depend on both players agreeing personal terms with the West London outfit.
"With Chelsea we have a total agreement. Now what is missing is the players' agreement," admitted Valdano.
Chelsea have been chasing Geremi for over a year having failed to sign him at the start of last season.
Both players are nothing but bit-part players at the Champions League holders and Real are willing to cash-in on the duo.
The pair are thought to be keen on kick-starting their careers by playing regular first-team football something they were not guaranteed at Santiago Bernabeu.
Geremi is currently away on World Cup duty with Cameroon and both deals are expected to be concluded after the finals.
There has been the suggestion that Flavio Conceicao, who has also attracted interest from Turkey, is not as keen on a move to Stamford Bridge, and his transfer is in more doubt than the raid for Geremi.
Blues boss Claudio Ranieri is keen to strengthen his squad for next season after a disappointing campaign last term and should both agree terms they will become the third new arrivals at Stamford Bridge after the capture of Enrique De Lucas from Espanyol.
