The former Barcelona star was forced off 20 minutes from time in the 3-0 win in Vienna and he is not confident of a quick recovery.
"Nothing is broken and I also think nothing is torn off,'' said Zenden.
"But I have lots of pain and can hardly stand on the foot. I'm afraid I will be out for Chelsea for a few weeks.''
The injury is a blow to Zenden who had hoped to win his place back in the Chelsea side after being left out for their last few games.
Meanwhile, speculation in Italy is growing that Chelsea are close to agreeing a deal for Internazionale midfielder Franciso Javier Farinos.
The Spanish international has failed to adapt to life in Italy after his move from Valencia in the summer of 2000.
The 24-year-old has failed to feature a lot in Inter's star-studded side and could be keen on a move for regular first team football.
Blues boss Claudio Ranieri knows all about Farinos having had him under his wing while he was in charge of Valencia and he could offer him the chance to move to Stamford Bridge when the transfer window re-opens in January.
