Morris was set to sign for the Welsh outfit this week, after being released by Chelsea during the summer.
The 24-year-old was halfway through a medical when Leeds boss Peter Reid rang and invited him up to West Yorkshire for talks.
The midfielder signed a two-year deal at Elland Road on Tuesday, stating that he had no regrets about snubbing Cardiff at the last moment, but Kavanagh pulled no punches in his assessment of Morris's 11th-hour switch.
He told the Western Mail: "Jody Morris had his reasons for going to Leeds. He wants to remain in the Premier League.
"But he might regret going there. That club is in big financial trouble and they are having to sell their best players.
"They could end up with a small squad and if they get a few injuries they could really struggle.
"If he does end up regretting going to Leeds it won't be any skin off my nose."
