Chelsea linked with Lucio

BAYER LEVERKUSEN defender Lucio is the latest high-profile name reportedly on Chelsea's shopping list.

Reports emanating from Germany suggest that Chelsea have made an enquiry about the Brazilian defender.

Bankrolled by Russian billionaire Roman Abramovich, Chelsea are building a new squad for the new season having already brought in Damien Duff, Wayne Bridge, Geremi and Glen Johnson and now Lucio has come under the microscope.

Lucio's future at the BayArena is uncertain as the club are unlikely to be able to reject a big-money offer for his signature.

Lucio is remaining coy over his future and admitted he expects to stay at Bayer with the new season just a week away.

"I assume I remain at Bayer," said Lucio.

Chelsea will face fierce competition for Lucio with Italian trio Juventus, Roma and Milan all interested in signing him.

Roma were close to signing him in a £10 million deal, but the move fell through at the last minute.

Juventus and Milan are both keeping tabs on him, but maybe unable to afford to get into an auction should Chelsea enter into the race for his signing.
