Juve resigned to losing Davids

JUVENTUS director general Luciano Moggi has conceded that Dutch star Edgar Davids is almost certain to leave the club next summer on a free transfer.

The tough-tackling midfielder is currently out-of-favour at the Stadio Delle Alpi and Moggi admits he is likely to leave at the end of the season.

The former Milan and Ajax star has failed to feature for Juve this season and is believed to have fallen out with Juve boss Marcello Lippi.

Davids is out of contract next summer and he has so far refused to sign a new deal with the Bianconeri leaving him as a free agent from January.

Roma and Chelsea have both been strongly linked with the Dutch international and Moggi hinted that Davids could join the Giallorossi next season.

"Davids can go where he wants at the end of this season," said Moggi. "He will be free to do whatever he pleases.

"I would not rule out Davids joining Roma next season, but it will only be once this campaign has concluded.

"He is in our Champions' League squad and we intend to use him.

"He can sign for Barcelona, Roma or whoever he wants, but our objective is to make the most of Davids while he is here."

Moggi also denied suggestions that Davids was not in their plans because of a fall-out with Lippi, but because he was out of form.

"Davids is a great champion and he was only left out because coach Marcello Lippi considered him off form right now," added Moggi.
