Terry was one of England's heroes during their 0-0 draw in Turkey on Saturday which secured The Three Lions' place at Euro 2004.
England withstood some heavy Turkish pressure as well as on and off-field antics to secure their passage to Portugal, with Aston Villa's Alpay seemingly at the heart of the troubles.
Alpay goaded David Beckham when he missed a penalty and also poked his finger at the England captain at half-time.
The incident boiled over into the tunnel, with video footage showing both sets of players scuffling before being ushered away by referee Pierluigi Collina and security staff.
The video is certain to be assessed by Uefa officials before a decision is made on what, if any, action is taken.
The video footage may deflect the focus of attention away from Alpay, but Terry believes England supporters will remember the incidents when he turns out for Aston Villa.
"If he gets a load of stick, he only has himself to blame," Terry told the Sun. "He deserves it as what he did was totally unprofessional - and people will remember that.
"Before the match Alpay was saying things like the Turks will welcome us and there will be no wind-ups from their players.
"Then he says those things to our captain. The English fans won't forget that - whichever club they support."
