Rumours are rife in Italy the Argentine has signed a pre-contract agreement with the Nerazzurri, with his deal expiring at El Santiago Bernabeu in the summer.
The player or his representatives are yet to confirm this but Cambiasso is almost certain to quit Spain in the summer with no offer from the Spanish aristocrats forthcoming.
However, it has now emerged that Chelsea have become aware of the 23-year-old's predicament and could be ready to enter the frame.
It may come down to personal reference as Chelsea can match any team in the world for financial clout and the South American may feel his game is better suited to Italy, rather than try and get a look in at The Blues' already over-crowded midfield.
Another factor working in Inter's favour though is the fact the youngster has not played in the required 70 percent of his country's last international matches, a rule not prominent in Italy who welcome South Americans with monotonous regularity.
