Disgraced Chelsea striker Adrian Mutu has flown back into the country.Disgraced Chelsea striker Adrian Mutu has flown back into the country as he gets ready to begin his rehabilitation programme.
Mutu is to undergo psychological counselling in a bid to get his career back on track after testing positive for an illegal substance.
The Romanian international could be handed a two-year ban for the offence, but he is hoping by confessing his guilt he will receive leniency from The Football Association.
Mutu, who had been in Italy when news of the failed drugs test broke, has now returned to London to see an FA psychiatrist on Friday and most likely hold talks with Chelsea over his future.
Should Chelsea decide to offload the striker he could be offered a lifeline by Ukrainian champions Shakhtar Donetsk.
Shakhtar's Romanian coach Mircea Lucescu has admitted he would keen on Mutu if he became available.
"I am shocked about what's happened to this big talent," Lucescu told the Daily Record.
"We definitely want to sign Mutu for Shakhtar Donetsk but we must first wait until his situation becomes clear.
"In December we will open the talks.
"Both myself and president Rinat Akhmetov want him because we think he can still do a lot of great things in football.
"He needs to regain his confidence and I really hope we can help him."
