The Blues are believed to have watched the Lecce striker in action on several occasions in recent weeks.
Bojinov has attracted the interest of a host of clubs after an impressive start to the season and is among the top scorers in Serie A.
Arsenal, Liverpool Barcelona, Internazionale and Milan have all been credited with an interest in the player in the past, but reports suggest Chelsea are hoping to steal a march on their rivals with a bid in the New Year.
Chelsea could be in the market for a new striker having sacked Adrian Mutu and Mateja Kezman failing to hit the heights since his switch from PSV Eindhoven.
Bojinov admitted he was flattered to be linked with moves to so many big clubs and that he would be keen on a switch to England.
"I am extremely pleased to learn that great European clubs are interested in me," Bojinov told The Sun.
"I am happy in Italy, but it will be interesting to play in the Premier League where players of my age - like Wayne Rooney and Cristiano Ronaldo - are already world stars."
Chelsea are also being linked with a move for Feyenoord winger Romeo Castelen.
Blues owner Roman Abramovich and chief executive Peter Kenyon travelled to Holland last weekend to watch Feyenoord play Ajax and Castelen and team-mate Solomon Kalou are both believed to be the reason for their visit.
Feyenoord are keen to keep the pair, but would be unable to resist a big-money offer for either player.
