Middlesbrough are reportedly keen on landing Juventus stopper Igor Tudor.Middlesbrough are reportedly keen on landing Juventus stopper Igor Tudor.
The Croatian star was linked with a number of English clubs during the transfer window after Juve agreed to let him leave.
However, the Italians appeared to change their mind last week when general manager Luciano Moggi said they could not afford to let him go, but Boro are now hoping that they can persuade their Serie A counterparts to let Tudor leave.
Boro have failed to land Celtic's Bobo Balde and manager Steve McClaren has already revealed his determination to bring in a new central defender - with Ugo Ehiogu and Chris Riggott sidelined.
McClaren has not travelled with the Boro squad on a winter break to Spain, in order to try and make a breakthrough on the transfer front.
Italian sources now claim that Juve will meet with Boro in the next 48 hours to discuss a potential loan move.
Boro are also in the market for a midfielder. Lazio's Ousmane Dabo is known to have been one name under consideration, along with Olivier Dacourt of Roma.
However, it is believed McClaren could try yet another bid for Chelsea's former Boro star Geremi - a player he has made three approaches for in the last month alone.
Turkish side Besiktas enquired after him last week and that may well have prompted Boro to go back in to make sure they were first in the queue, should Geremi be allowed to leave - which appears unlikely.
Boro are also still waiting to hear if their bid for Real Madrid's Albert Celades will prove succesful.
