Adrian Mutu could make his return in the UEFA Champions League final.Adrian Mutu could make his return to football in the UEFA Champions League final, if Juventus make it through to the competition's pinnacle.
The disgraced Romanian was sacked by Chelsea after testing positive for a banned substance, but quickly found himself a new club.
Livorno technically hold the player's registration, but they have loaned him to Juventus - who would otherwise have had too many non-EU players on their books.
Mutu will only be back for the last two games in the league - but has been registered as one of the players Juventus will be allowed to use in the Champions League.
The striker will only be eligible for the final - but the scenario where the player will be lining up to face the club that washed their hands of him in the final cannot be discounted.
"Mutu is a good signing," said coach Fabio Capello.
"Juve only sign champions who can make a difference.
"Mutu is included in our Champions League group - so will be available in case we reach the final."
Mutu is happy to put a controversial past year behind him, and is hoping to repay Juve's faith when his ban ends on May 18.
"I am content because my life has a new sense after an ugly period," said Mutu.
"I have to wait three months to play but I will give my maximum every day and I will put myself at the service of the side the moment my ban ends.
"I missed Italian football and I think the style of football is better suited to my qualities.
"I do not expect to leave Serie A again and I hope to repay the confidence of this club with goals and assists."
