Chelsea have reportedly targeted Roma's Italian international Antonio Cassano.
Chelsea have reportedly targeted Roma's Italian international Antonio Cassano as Jose Mourinho looks to bolster his attacking options.
Roma are awaiting news from the Court of Arbitration for Sport, who are deliberating on the Italian club's transfer embargo, so any talks on a possible transfer would have to wait until next week.
However, reports in the Italian press suggest that Chelsea chief executive Peter Kenyon will fly to Rome within the next two weeks and is prepared to offer around £8.5 million to sign the talented but temperamental front man.
The Stamford Bridge side will have been encouraged by the former Bari player's reported unrest with the Giallorossi and the fact the player's contract expires in 2006.
Roma have attempted to agree a contract extension with Cassano but the player's financial demands have scuppered any attempts at brokering a deal.
In contrast, Chelsea would appear only too happy to accommodate Cassano's requests and are reported to be willing to offer the player a five-year deal worth £4.5 million a season.
