Eidur Gudjohnson has been assured that he has a future at Chelsea.Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho has assured Icelandic striker Eidur Gudjohnson that he has a future at the club.
Gudjohnson replaced Asier Del Horno at half-time in the game against Bolton at the weekend, a change that seemingly transformed the game in Chelsea's favour.
The striker's arrival against his former club saw a change in formation for Mourinho's side with the Icelander playing a pivotal role in the comeback.
However, Gudjohnson's performance did not surprise his manager who insists that the player has shown his professionalism throughout, despite being behind both Hernan Crespo and Didier Drogba in the pecking order.
"It did not surprise me at all," he insisted.
"He is a top player, a top character and very important to the team in both football and social terms," he added.
"He is also a very important player in the dressing room. The way he is behaving, working and waiting for chances is not a surprise to me.
"I would say for sure that he is one of my first 15 players, but at the moment my options are Dider Drogba as striker and Michael Essien and Frank Lampard in midfield.
"He is a player I trust very much and the team needs him."
