Carles Puyol says Eidur Gudjohnsen is likely to prove a good signing for Barcelona.
Barcelona captain Carles Puyol has welcomed the imminent arrival of Chelsea's Eidur Gudjohnsen at Camp Nou.
The Icelandic forward is expected to be unveiled as a Barca player later on Wednesday after tying up the loose ends of a proposed £8 million switch from Stamford Bridge.
Just a medical remains before the Blues star can be named as the replacement for Swedish striker Henrik Larsson, and Puyol has indicated he is pleased with Frank Rijkaard's piece of summer business.
The Catalans' captain has faced off against Gudjohnsen in clashes between the two clubs in the UEFA Champions League over the past two seasons, and believes the 27-year-old has the qualities to succeed in La Liga.
"I do not know if he is already signed up but I have played against him and he is a great player," said Puyol.
"He is very strong, fast, makes goals and can do very well for us.
"He is a player who can play in the centre of the field and attack."
Barca have also revamped their backroom staff over the summer with former player Johan Neeskens arriving to replace Henk ten Cate as Rijkaard's assistant.
The Dutchman won the Copa del Rey and the Cup Winners' Cup during his playing career at Camp Nou and Puyol hopes his second coming will help inspire the Catalans to more glory after a tremendous campaign last season.
"I am very glad," Puyol continued.
"Hopefully he will gain as many titles as he did as a player.
"He is part of Barca's history and will hopefully do very well with us."
