Frank Lampard says Ashley Cole can cope with the criticism set to come his way.
Frank Lampard has backed Ashley Cole to cope with the criticism set to come his way following his switch to Chelsea.
The England left back ended the long-running transfer saga by moving to Stamford Bridge from Arsenal on transfer deadline day.
Lampard admits his new club team-mate is likely to face plenty of stick for joining The Blues but believes the 25-year-old can handle it.
"Ashley is tough enough to deal with whatever is thrown at him," Lampard said in The Sun.
"People have already been giving him stick but he's stayed very strong mentally.
"He's coped with the demands of playing at the top level for Arsenal and England so he'll have no problems coming to Chelsea.
"Ashley is probably the best left back in the world."
Meanwhile, John Terry admits Jose Mourinho will have a difficult choice when choosing who will start at left back against Charlton.
Wayne Bridge has begun the season in the position but is likely to lose his starting place following Cole's arrival.
However, Terry says Mourinho will have a tough decision when deciding whether to drop the former Southampton man.
Terry added: "It'll be interesting when we get back to Chelsea because Wayne Bridge has been on fire in the last three games."
