Bridge admits mental struggle

Wayne Bridge admits it is a struggle to get motivated being out of the Chelsea first team.

Chelsea left-back Wayne Bridge has admitted it is a struggle to get motivated when you are not playing first-team football.

The former Southampton defender had been a regular in Jose Mourinho's side prior to Ashley Cole's arrival, but has now been pushed down the pecking order.

Bridge is keen to play more but acknowledges that being at a club like Chelsea ensures there will be times when you are not given a run in the side.

"It's hard. Talk to any player who isn't involved week-in week-out and they'll tell you that sometimes motivation can drop a little bit," explained Bridge.

"But it comes with the territory of being at a club like this, where the manager has lots of quality options for every position. Sometimes your head can drop.

"But it's never for long. I've got my family around me to keep my spirits up and help me to fight for my place."
