Jose Mourinho is expecting John Obi Mikel to miss Chelsea's next two games due to injury.
Mikel is carrying a minor thigh injury picked up in the Premiership champions' 1-0 win at Charlton Athletic on Saturday.
The Nigerian midfielder was replaced by Shaun Wright-Phillips 15 minutes from time and Mourinho explained the situation.
"A young kid of 19 playing five consecutive matches, running 12 kilometres a game is, of course, a little tired and feels a little pain," said Mourinho.
"We will have it scanned, but experience says he has a little muscular problem and, for the next 15 days, he is out of competition."
If Mourinho's prediction is correct, Mikel will miss this weekend's Premiership game with Middlesbrough, and the following weekend's FA Cup fifth round tie against either Blackpool or Norwich City.
Mikel is also likely to sit out Nigeria's friendly against Ghana at Brentford's Griffin Park on Tuesday.
