Sevilla president Jose Maria del Nido has reacted angrily to Fredi Kanoute's demands.Sevilla president Jose Maria del Nido has reacted angrily to Fredi Kanoute's public demand for a pay rise and said that the player agreed to his current deal without any problems.
The Malian striker has been linked with a move to Portsmouth and claimed that if the Spanish side want to keep him then they would have to review his contract.
Del Nido wasted no time in hitting back and was clearly unhappy that Kanoute was demanding an improved deal, after agreeing to his current terms.
"Perhaps he should remember that he has two more years on a contract that he willingly and happily signed," the president said.
"But neither him, nor any other player, or the media, are going to put Sevilla under pressure.
"All the players in the market have a price and Sevilla decides how much their players are worth."
While the future of Kanoute hangs in the balance, Del Nido confirmed that Sevilla are close to bringing in two new players.
Udinese contract rebel Morgan de Sanctis and Chelsea defender Khalid Boulahrouz have been tipped to move to the Spanish club, but no deals as yet have been completed.
"We will not talk about players that are not in our squad," Del Nido continued.
"On that basis though I can say that there are negotiations, which are very advanced, to bring in two new players, but they are not finalised yet.
"The positions that we want to strengthen are that of the goalkeeper, right-sided central defender, a right winger and defensive midfielder.
"We will hold another press conference on Thursday and, very soon, I hope that we can present the new players."
