Real Madrid are hopeful of securing the signing of Dutch starlet Royston Drenthe.

The 20-year-old Feyenoord ace was the Player of the Tournament at the recent Uefa Under 21 Championship and most of Europe's big hitters were impressed.

Chelsea and Barcelona have both lodged their interest, but Real seem set to seal a deal for the versatile left sider.

"The truth is that I cannot let this pass, it is Real Madrid," he is quoted as saying in AS.

Real president Ramon Calderon has confirmed that he expects Drenthe to sign shortly.

"It seems that the transfer of Drenthe is going well and things should be closed within hours," he confirmed.

"They tell me he is a fantastic player and I hope that everything is done fast."

Calderon has also agreed to hand Sergio Ramos a new six-year contract.

The 21-year-old, who arrived from Sevilla in 2005, is close to signing the deal which will see his wages move to around ?4million (£2.7million) per season and his buy-out clause rise to a massive ?150million (£101million).
