Chelsea showed brief moments of class, but it took the half-time introduction of new signing Florent Malouda to spark a revival.
Heavy Chelsea pressure finally told in the 75th minute when Malouda's perfectly angled shot eluded a number of defenders before dribbling into the net.
Mourinho's side had their tails up and it came as no surprise when John Terry headed home Malouda's free-kick to complete a fine comeback.
Chelsea now tackle Korean side Suwon Bluewings before taking on David Beckham's LA Galaxy.
Mourinho was pleased with his side's run-out and has thanked Club America for playing their part in a fine contest.
"I'm pleased," stated the Portuguese tactician. "It was a very good training session.
"I want to thank Club America because they gave us exactly what we needed - good competition.
"It was a very good game by our team. There was good passing by our team, good defence, and a good overall game."
