Chelsea target Daniel Alves has been left out of Sevilla's squad for the UEFA Champions League tie with AEK Athens.
The full-back admitted he was unsure about whether he wanted to play in Wednesday's game as it would make him ineligible for another club.
Sevilla coach Juande Ramos has now confirmed that the Brazil international will not figure against AEK in the first leg of the third qualifying round tie.
"Alves is not on the list," Ramos told a news conference.
"He told me he was not in the right condition to play and I have informed the club about the situation.
"I don't know if he has agreed this with someone else in the club because they are in talks, but we knew this might happen. I expected something like this.
"Daniel is an influential player and the fact that clubs of the stature of Chelsea and Real Madrid are after him shows how important he is."
The attack-minded defender's omission from the squad could now accelerate his move to Stamford Bridge.
Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho revealed last week that he is hoping to sign Alves, providing the price is right.
Sevilla have received offers for the player and it would now appear the two clubs need to reach a suitable compromise on the fee.
