Iron reject Williams talk

Nigel Adkins has denied that Marcus Williams is set for a £700,000 switch to Wigan.

No contact from Wigan, says Adkins

Scunthorpe manager Nigel Adkins has denied that Marcus Williams is set for a £700,000 switch to Wigan. Reports have claimed that The Latics have agreed a deal to take Williams to The JJB Stadium to replace Leighton Baines. Baines moved to Everton over the summer and Kevin Kilbane has been playing at left-back at the start of the season. Williams was rumoured to be moving to Wigan to fill the void left by Baines, but Adkins says Chris Hutchings has not made an approach for the 21-year-old. "We have had no contact from Wigan whatsoever," Adkins told the Scunthorpe Telegraph.

Iron capture Cork

Meanwhile, Chelsea have agreed to let young midfielder Jack Cork join Scunthorpe on loan until January. Cork, 18, could be involved for The Iron against Burnley at Glanford Park on Saturday. "Jack is a player we targeted towards the end of last season and is one of the players we have pursued patiently and quietly throughout the summer," Adkins said. "We are delighted that Chelsea want him to continue his development here at Scunthorpe. "He is a defensive midfield player who has a good range of passing."
