Frank Lampard has admitted that Chelsea were lucky to escape with a point in their UEFA Champions League clash at Schalke on Tuesday night.
Chelsea managed to claim a 0-0 draw in the Arena auf Schalke despite the German side twice hitting the woodwork.
But while Lampard acknowledges his side could easily have been beaten on the night, he believes the fact they managed to avoid defeat is a sign of mental strength.
"We were not at our best and Schalke had chances, especially at the end, to win, so we have to be happy with a draw," he said.
"I think it says something about our resilience and there was a bit of luck as well. We didn't play particularly well and you need that at times.
"You have to come away and dig in sometimes. These are the sort of things that make a good team and all teams need a bit of luck and resilience.
"You cannot be pretty all the time and sometimes you have to dig in.
"We have won seven on the spin and you cannot keep playing better and better."
Bridge bruisingMeanwhile, Wayne Bridge has suggested that he was not given enough protection in the game after the assistant referee failed to take action against Schalke winger Gerald Asamoah.
Bridge is suffering from facial bruising following his battles with the Germany international throughout the game and feels more could have been done to prevent it.
"I got a few elbows, but I guess that is football," he said. "The linesman warned him a few times but that was about it.
"The worst thing was that he didn't do anything about it. He decided to let it go and maybe he should look at his game."
