Midfielder moves to Hillsborough until January

Sheffield Wednesday have completed the loan signing of Chelsea youngster Jimmy Smith. Skysports.com revealed last week that Owls boss Brian Laws was targeting a temporary move for the midfielder. Chelsea have now confirmed that Smith has moved to Hillsborough on loan until January. Smith spent a spell on loan at fellow Championship side Norwich City last season, but was restricted to nine appearances due to injury. He also impressed during a loan spell at Queens Park Rangers in the 2006/07 campaign and will hope for similar success with Wednesday.

High-energy player

Owls boss Brian Laws is confident Smith will prove to be a valuable addition to his squad next season. "I'm really pleased to be getting the services of Jimmy Smith on board," Laws told the club's official website. "He's a high-energy player with an abundance of natural talent and I'm extremely confident he can make a difference to our midfield. "Obviously, Jimmy has had an excellent grounding at Chelsea and he also has the benefit of already having played Championship football with QPR and Norwich."
