John Terry is set to miss Chelsea's match against Everton this weekend but Andre Villas-Boas has stressed the defender's absence is not a result of media scrutiny.
The centre-back has not played since the 1-0 victory at QPR in the FA Cup at the end of January as a result of a knee injury.
Terry's appearance in that match was a significant talking point given that the fixture meant he was facing Anton Ferdinand, who he is alleged to have racially abused in an earlier game.
The Chelsea captain has pleaded not guilty to the charge but his trial date has been set for after Euro 2012.
Since the court date was scheduled, the Football Association's decision to strip Terry of the England captaincy has led to Fabio Capello's resignation as manager.
Villas-Boas has in the meantime confirmed Terry has been given some time away from the club but insists it is only due to injury.
The Chelsea boss said: "He has a couple of days off but that is because of his injury, not the turmoil and the media."
