Roberto Di Matteo's side took the lead twice at the Emirates Stadium and stayed ahead after Laurent Koscielny had diverted a Juan Mata free-kick past Vito Mannone in the 53rd minute.
Impressive saves from Cech ensured that the Blues kept Arsenal at bay and maintained their unbeaten start to the season.
"It was our first meeting with one of our main rivals this season. Moreover, we were away so the three points were very valuable," Cech told his official website. "We wanted to stay on top of the table and we managed to do that.
"It was a pity we did not add a third as we had plenty of speed on the counter-attack. We were not calm enough when finishing, and it was nervous up until the end."
Cech had already denied Arsenal's Olivier Giroud with an excellent save after Chelsea had gone back into the lead, and he felt he had the angles covered when the striker wasted a great chance to open his Premier League account in stoppage-time.
"I managed to close him down and make his shooting angle difficult. Besides that, I knew that one of our players was going to the goal-line and he would have possibly been able to save the situation."
