Chelsea are understood to have made a £20million offer for the Serbia international, who had also been linked with Premier League rivals Manchester United.
Reports have claimed that the 25-year-old will be at Chelsea's Cobham training ground on Tuesday to undergo a medical ahead of finalising a deal.
However, speaking at the Ballon d'Or awards ceremony in Zurich on Monday evening, Matic was remaining coy regarding his future.
Matic was quoted by A Bola as saying: "I still can't say anything about this, let's see what happens in the future, you have to ask the club and the president."
And, when asked about a move to Chelsea, Matic replied: "If it's good for the club and for me, we'll talk. Let's see what happens until 31 January."
The imposing midfielder initially joined Chelsea from Kosice in the summer of 2009 and made substitute appearances in the Premier League against Wolves and Wigan.
He also featured as a substitute in the FA Cup against Watford before joining Dutch side Vitesse Arnhem on loan in the summer of 2010.
In the 2011 January transfer window, Matic moved to Benfica as part of the deal which saw Brazil international David Luiz join Chelsea.
Matic's prospective return to west London could be followed by a departure from Chelsea as Kevin de Bruyne is closing in on a move to Wolfsburg.
Belgian winger De Bruyne has been unable to establish himself in Jose Mourinho's plans this season and has the offer of a move to the Bundesliga with Wolfsburg.
