Roberto Firmino a bargain for Liverpool, says Jurgen Klopp

Liverpool got a £29m bargain when they bought Roberto Firmino in 2015, according to Jurgen Klopp.

Firmino made his name at Hoffenheim when Klopp was in charge at Borussia Dortmund, and the Reds boss rated the Brazilian among the best Bundesliga players.

Brendan Rodgers was still at Anfield when Firmino arrived ahead of the 2015/16 season, but his 17 Liverpool goals have all been scored under Klopp.

"I thought, immediately, 'What a good transfer for them'," Klopp said. "When I heard about it I thought, they had made a good signing, because I felt pretty sure clubs would have paid a lot more for him.

"In Germany, some people don't know where Hoffenheim is, but if you play your football there then you feel it is a tough place. So, you know what a decent job the scout did, whoever brought him in for that price."

Klopp denied advising Liverpool to sign Firmino, saying: "The first thing I did when I left Dortmund, I took my phone and deleted all the numbers so I was not reachable.

"So, I didn't speak to anyone to offer advice about Firmino, but he was one of the best in the Bundesliga."
