Jurgen Klopp says he is happy to have Dominic Solanke at Liverpool

Jurgen Klopp praised the "unpredictability" of Dominic Solanke after he scored his first Liverpool goal against Crystal Palace on Wednesday.

The 19-year-old, who joined Liverpool from Chelsea this summer, struck a fine goal in the 61st minute of the Premier League Asia Trophy clash in Hong Kong.

"It's a wonderful goal," Klopp told Sky Sports. "You need to be unpredictable, especially as a striker. You can be as good as you want, but if you always do what everybody knows you will do then nothing happens.

"He could have played the pass but he shoots and it was a very good idea.

"He is a good footballer, a smart boy and has a really good attitude, so really happy to have him. It's nice to have him around, he wants to learn and scoring goals is the best thing he can do."

Klopp was also impressed by another summer signing, Mohamed Salah, who joined from Roma.

"He's quicker than I thought," said Klopp, who gave the Egypt international 50 minutes before taking him off in humid conditions.

Five questions for Liverpool after the Premier League Asia Trophy win over Crystal Palace

Divock Origi scored Liverpool's second in the 2-0 win as they set up a meeting with Leicester in the final of the tournament on Saturday.

Klopp was pleased with the performance against Palace, who Liverpool host on the second weekend of the 2017/18 Premier League season.

"They did well," said the Reds manager. "First half we played some nice football. We didn't finish but that will come because it's not normal if everything works really well in this intense session in really extraordinary circumstances [the humidity].

"Second half we finished and scored nice goals, especially the first, but the second too, there was a full box, a lot of red legs and one of them could finish.

"I was really happy. Against Wigan it was not that good but this was really good. You saw what a good side Palace are, especially offensively, [Andros] Townsend and [Wilfried] Zaha are not easy to defend.

"I am happy with the boys, but you need to have qualities and we need to show it. We need a big squad and need a bit of luck with injuries, then we can play football."
