Barmby injured his ankle in the FA Cup semi-final win over Wycombe and it was feared that he would miss out on The Reds' exciting end to the season.
The former Everton and Tottenham star has now had his plaster removed and could figure in one of the two remaining cup finals as Liverpool chase an historic treble.
Anfield boss Gerard Houllier is encouraged by the progress of Barmby and is hoping to include him in his plans.
"Nick has had the plaster cast removed and that's good news," said Houllier.
"He will continue to have treatment for the next week and then we will see how he is. But I haven't ruled him out of the two cup finals or our last Premiership game at Charlton."
Finnish international Litmanen has been out of action since breaking his wrist in the World Cup qualifier against England at Anfield.
He too was ruled out for the season but says that he could also be back ahead of schedule to help in Liverpool's chase for silverware.
"I am having the plaster cast removed next week and a light cast put on instead," said Litmanen. "I'm hopeful I might be able to play again this season."
Houllier was confident that the former Barcelona and Ajax playmaker could figure in the side before the end of the season.
"Jari will still need a protective covering," the Frenchman said. "But he should have time to play for us before the season is over."
