Song was a subject of ridicule in his time in England with Liverpool offloading the Indomitable Lions skipper to West Ham, who then loaned the 25-year-old to Cologne after some less than convincing performances at Upton Park.
However, the former Metz stopper has impressed during his short spell with The Goats and European champions Bayern may feel the defender is better suited to life in Die Bundesliga.
"We are dealing with the matter. We are not getting carried away, but we are interested," confirmed Bayern managing director Uli Hoeness.
"He knows how to kick the ball and his style is similar to (Sammy) Kuffour's."
Song has confirmed that he will leave Cologne if they are relegated and, with that looking a foregone conclusion, and The Hammers not keen on retrieving him from his loan stint, Bayern should be able to capture 'Rigo' for a fee in the region of £3 million.
