The Reds boss is set to watch the match between Basel and Grasshoppers and will keep a keen eye on the Turkish-born star, who has impressed during his time under former Spurs boss Christian Gross.
Yakin caught Houllier's eye during the two Champions League matches between Liverpool and Basel and he could be just the player that the Frenchman is looking for to add some creativity to his midfield ranks.
After an indifferent season, in which Liverpool failed to win a place in next season's Champions League, Houllier is looking for someone to pull the strings in midfield, as his side have often been labelled as one-dimensional.
The Merseyside giants will face stiff competition for the 26-year-old's signature, as he has been linked with several European clubs including Marseille, Internazionale and Milan.
England striker Michael Owen blew hot and cold for the Reds last season but still ended the campaign with 28 goals to his name, while strike partner Emile Heskey disappointed with just nine. It is possible that a new striker could also be near the top of the Liverpool summer shopping list.
French international striker Djibril Cisse has been linked with a move to Anfield and Houllier has confirmed that he will hold talks with his Auxerre counterpart Guy Roux to discuss a possible move for the 21-year-old.
Mallorca's Cameroon international striker Samuel Eto'o has also been attracting interest from Liverpool scouts as the Reds seek to improve their squad for an assault on next season's Barclaycard Premiership.
