The highly-rated young goalkeeper is currently on the sidelines after damaging his cruciate ligament during The Reds' FA Cup draw with Crystal Palace in January.
Prior to his injury, Kirkland had established himself as Liverpool's number one after replacing Jerzy Dudek.
But Kirkland's prospects of a sustained run in the side were shattered by the injury which also checked his progress into the England set-up.
He fortunately did not require surgery on the problem and is targeting a return to full training in time for pre-season.
The 22-year-old is aiming to hand himself and the club the perfect fillip ahead of the next campaign by penning a fresh contract which will be offered by the Anfield giants.
"The club are going to offer me a new contract in the summer and I'm going to sign it," affirmed Kirkland.
"For them to offer me a deal when I'm injured shows the respect that they have for me as a goalkeeper and I'm going to repay that by signing the new contract."
