Milan Baros and Emile Heskey netted braces, with Vladimir Smicer scoring the other during an excellent workout for Gerard Houllier`s side.
Smicer netted the opener on the quarter hour, stroking home from inside the box.
Heskey raced clear to double the lead, while French ace Le Tallec scored his first Reds goal 15 minutes from time thanks to great work from Baros.
Baros scored twice late on as The Reds took control, with Heskey netting his second in injury-time.
Alan Smith and Mark Viduka scored for Leeds, but the strike duo could not prevent The Whites from slipping to a 4-2 defeat at Burnley.
Richard Chaplow fired The Clarets in front on eight minutes, but the lead was short-lived as Viduka tapped in from a corner.
Ian Moore nodded Burnley in front minutes later, but the impressive Smith hauled Leeds level before the break.
Burnley took control after the interval, with Robbie Blake scoring from the spot after being fouled by David Batty. A second penalty from Ian Moore sealed the home side`s win.
A Newcastle XI fell to a 3-2 defeat at Livingston. Tresor Lomana Lua Lua was on the scoresheet for The Magpies, as was Calvin Zola-Makongo, but the SPL side proved too strong.
