The Liverpool man may be unable to dislodge Jerzy Dudek as Anfield number one, but the fit-again 22-year-old is highly rated by many people within the game.
Platt is certainly one of his biggest fans, and lavished praise on the giant goalie during a press conference ahead of the games with FYR Macedonia and Portugal.
"It is a great boost for us to have him back," beamed Platt. "I have seen a lot of youth football across the world since I took this job and Chris is the best young goalkeeper in the world.
"Certainly, if he continues to improve, then it will not be long before people are looking for the new Chris Kirkland. It is not right to say Chris is the new David Seaman, but, unfortunately, that is what he is going to have to endure."
Kirkland blushed at the plaudits when introduced to the media himself.
"It's a great compliment," he admitted. "I'm delighted to be here.
"It's been a year since I've been with the Under-21s. It's great to be back."
The former Coventry City keeper was called into the full England squad for the first time for the friendly with Croatia at Portman Road, but did not get a taste of the action.
