Reports in France Football claim that Liverpool along with French outfit Bastia made enquiries for the Guinea ace, but neither side could agree a deal for him.
Mansare revealed last month that an unnamed Premiership club had contacted him and that he would be keen on a move to England ahead of going anywhere else.
The 22-year-old is regarded as one of the best young talents in France and has attracted the interest of a host of clubs.
Tottenham and Bolton have both been strongly linked with the pacy hit-man in the past, but it appears the strongest English interest came from Liverpool.
Reds boss Gerard Houllier is an avid follower of the French league and has shown he likes to bring in players from France to bolster his squad.
Mansare fits the bill as to the type of player Houllier likes as he is a young, strong striker and he could renew his interest in the player when the transfer window reopens in January.
Mansare played an instrumental role in keeping Montpellier in the top-flight last season, but Montpellier know they face a battle to keep hold of their most prized asset.
Montpellier have serious financial worries and despite rejecting a é¼1 million bid from Toulouse recently it appears that Mansare will move on in the near future.
