Australian defender Neill was sent off for his two-footed lunge when the pair met recently that resulted in England international Carragher sustaining a broken leg.
A verbal tirade ensued from both Reds boss Gerard Houllier and Rovers manager Graeme Souness, with the Frenchman aiming some stinging criticism at both player and manager for their conduct following Neill's dismissal, as well as the challenge itself.
Fellow SocceRoo Kewell though, believes the stopper is being tarnished with the wrong brush, but said Neill's name was still taboo around Anfield.
Kewell said: "People are going to brand Lucas a nasty player, but he isn't like that.
"He's a hard player, just like Jamie, and he goes in to win the ball.
"I don't think you should mention Lucas's name around Liverpool at the moment. If you do, it should be done quietly.
"I'm still great friends with him though and he is a great player in my eyes."
