Anthony Le Tallec, on his first home start for the Merseyside outfit, Emile Heskey, his 50th strike for the club, and former Leeds United man Harry Kewell bagged the goals for The Reds.
The home side started like a house on fire with Heskey causing early problems for Borut Mavric in the visitors' net, after turning swiftly in the box and firing in a low shot.
Olimpija caused worries of their own, and should have done better moments later, when Mladen Rudonja capitalised on Igor Biscan's poor pass, however Jerzy Dudek made a fine save.
Mavric was the busier of the keepers and needed to be on his guard to tip over John Arne Riise's free kick before getting down well to stop Kewell's first time effort.
The deadlock was broken on the half hour mark when Le Tallec was on hand to curl home following a Mavric mistake, before Heskey doubled their advantage after sliding home Vladimir Smicer's cross from close range.
Despite the half time interval allowing the visitors to recuperate, Liverpool added to their tally two minutes after the break when Kewell comfortably converted Heskey's right wing cross at the far post.
The Reds had the perfect chance to add to their tally when they were awarded a penalty, after Steve Finnan was fouled in the box, however El Hadji Diouf's spot kick was saved by Mavric.
While not up against the strongest side in Europe they will face in the competition, Gerrard Houllier's men will take heart from their display as they prepare for Portsmouth this weekend.
