Former Red Nicolas Anelka faces a late fitness test after limping out of the stunning FA Cup win at Tottenham last week, but Kevin Keegan has conceded that Saturday's cup derby with Manchester United is perhaps a more realistic target for the Frenchman.
If Anelka's groin strain does keep him sidelined, Jon Macken will continue in his absence, while Steve McManaman and Robbie Fowler will be determined to grasp any chance to perform on their old stamping ground.
Keegan, who also has Trevor Sinclair and Richard Dunne fit after injury niggles, is fully aware of the Anfield connection at The City of Manchester Stadium.
"There is Robbie Fowler and Steve McManaman, Joey Barton is a Scouser and, of course, both Nicolas Anelka and David James have been at there," he stated. "It is a big game for us."
The Merseysiders will field Australian international Harry Kewell, even though Gerard Houllier has revealed the ex-Leeds United star has been carrying an ankle injury.
Emile Heskey is back from a hamstring problem to increase Houllier's options in attack and there is the possibility that keeper Chris Kirkland could return to the fold.
Liverpool need a win as they sit two points behind Newcastle United and Charlton Athletic in the chase for fourth spot and a chance to play in next season's UEFA Champions League.
