Lens are understood to have made contact with Liverpool's Czech Republic international Vladimir Smicer.
The 30-year-old cost The Reds over £4 million when leaving Lens for Anfield and he lifted the French title with the Sang et Or in 1998.
Lens chairman Gervais Martel and coach Joel Muller are huge admirers of the Czech star and are looking into the possibility of bringing Smicer back to the Ligue 1 outfit.
Meanwhile, captain Rigobert Song is a target for Turkish side Galatasaray.
Lens have denied receiving an offer from the Istanbul giants but Song, a former Liverpool player, has been in touch with the club.
Returning to possible incoming moves at Stade Felix Bollaert, Switzerland defender Remo Meyer is another name on coach Muller's short-list.
The 23-year-old is currently with 1860 Munich and was surprisingly left out of Kobi Kuhn's Euro 2004 squad.
